Speed is about living in the 21st century and the construct of time that is overarching in most people's lives. We are experiencing the accelerated rhythm of the end of an age and desperately trying to postpone it.
By moving faster we think we are going forward. But in reality we are standing still; the 'car' is stationary and the 'little man' inside us is dancing, dreaming and divining another life, the one that he's continually trying to bring to the surface....
We are so busy pedalling, driving, braking, looking over our shoulder, competing, pedalling, striving, quaking.....that we forget to sit back and reflect, to work it all out from another, more discerning angle. In fact, if we try to do this, then society labels us "dreamers, spongers, wasters, no-hopers".
Everyone is sucked up by his own desire and the rhythm of life catches. pulls, stops and begins again, like a cold car on a Winter's morning. When the mist clears, the journey can resume, but have the drivers learned any more about controlling the chaos of their own particular vehicle? Or do they just pull out, accelerate without looking and rip straight back into the fast-lane? Speed obliterates time and space.........
