Worcester based experimental ‘art house’ rock ensemble BABAL and artist John Taylor have collaborated on the ‘Bread and Circuses’ project. Art, music ,visuals and words combine to express beauty and truth shining through the grey backdrop of manufactured culture and apathy. ‘Bread and Circuses’ is a reflection of the struggle to be an authentic individual and explores this contrast with hypnotic music, rich language and songs ,set against the powerful original artwork of artist, John Taylor, and the filmwork of Karen Langley and Rob Williams, and Carnie Films' Tom Lee-Rutter.

The show’s first outing was at the Midlands Arts Centre as part of the Birmingham Arts Festival and they are now taking it across the UK in selected venues to much critical acclaim.
‘Bread & Circus’ is also the name of the recently released album from Babble on' Out of the Box Records' via Musik and Film. They have recently signed a management deal with Los Angeles based company KounterKulture MGMT & Media.
The show features a full light show with original film projections and Taylors artwork and the performance will be filmed by a 4 man pro camera crew to be put out as a limited edition DVD.
The first 30 audience members through the door on the night will receive a limited advance promo copy of the upcoming single CD release 'Bones & Blood Rise Up/Endless Re-Run Society'.
"Both the album and the show have a mystical leitmotif; it’s not quite psychedelic, but definitely soul-searching, reminiscent of Alice in Chains unplugged. The show is carefully structured , but the performance is in the much-loved spirit of exploring different musical styles that held sway in the 60's and early 70's.
The acoustic guitar melodies, on which some of the material is grounded is stellar indeed. Rob William’s breathtaking guitar components are at times kind of jazzy and playful, then suddenly laced with solos that hit you out of nowhere…to the point that you just want more. From acoustic groove to heavily electronic dual-synthesizer the mood changes from light-hearted jingle to the darkly brooding. The simultaneous contrasts are highly creative, evocative and extremely atmospheric. "

The live show and the album showcase the powerful multi-faceted vocals of Karen Langley. The material fits her like a personal anthem and she sounds like she is truly in her element! Paul Smith- bass guitars; Eric Hej - percussion; Jon sharp- drums/percussion; Alice the Worker - muse/mime, complete the BABAL line-up for this performance.
This is indeed a musical production to be savoured by those prepared to leave their preconceptions at the door. Musical connoisseurs will certainly appreciate the fine construction of songs that surface time and again, and the very firmly placed collective tongue of BABAL in its cheek.
